The Deserted Cabin

The Start

I had a mishap along the mountain trail. I was now traveling through the daunting and frightening forest in frosty weather and the light snowflakes fell gently along the path. Every noise was a sudden alarm that could be there any second.

The Cabin

Suddenly there was a clearing in the forest and there stood alone, a cabin. Anything at the time would have looked incredibly inviting. It was run down with branches all over and shutters hanging loosely and the color was a smoky black as if it had been a monument of another time.

The Entrance

So I walked to it with haste and a sense of caution. I was nearly frozen and exhausted. Inside wasn’t much better than the cold forest. The fireplace was covered in a thick layer of soot and dust. Every single floor board creaked as if it cried out at this new weight that it hasn’t felt in centuries. While the hinges to the door of the cabinets shrieked to the alarm of an unexpected guest to its long slumber.

The Well Deserved Slumber

But in the corner there was a bed with thick quilts sat invitingly upon the bed. So I embraced the invitation from the bed ecstatically and jumped under the sea of blankets and dust for a rest well deserved.
